Star Wars Cave!

Hahaha...our next assignment is to create a layout where "USC Students get trapped underground and then discover the remains of an ancient civilization".
I was like, hmm...what's an ancient civilization that I know of? STAR WARS! (A long time ago...remember?) Anyways, I decided, why don't I have them enter a cave and stumble upon Darth Vader's helmet lying among the rocks? Or how about finding an X-wing or Tie fighter encased in a column of ice?

My favorite is the first one. In this one, they're walking into the cave and seeing the bottom of a giant Star Destroyer encased in rocks. In the foreground I'll probably put Darth Vader's helmet and some of the remains of his Tie fighter on the rocky ground. Heehee.

Final Pirate Ship Layout

And here's the fully rendered drawing of the final layout, based on one of the thumbnails (the first one from the last post). I might paint it digitally to give it a finished look.

Pirate Layout Thumbnails

Here are some thumbnails for a layout in Will's class. I designed a prop--a pirate ship built by kids--and now I'm figuring out how to place it in a composition.

Pirate Layout Prop Design

Here's the final prop design for the ship. My kids live on a farm in the 1920's, and when they discovered this old rotten rowboat, they took farm items and transformed it into a pirate ship!

Pirate Ship Layout Silhouettes

Here are some silhouettes I'm working on for the ship design. Will says that if a silhouette reads clearly and is interesting, then you know your final prop is going to look good.

Film Studies

Here's some film studies I did recently for Will's class.
The ones on the left are mostly tarzan, the ones on the right iron giant.

These are great for understanding composition in film.
